Good morning and good month. On the occasion of February 1st, 2018 we wish to communicate the basis on which we set up this year the 2nd Olympic Seeds Festival and the 18th Peliti Seed Festival. Soon we will announce the more detailed programme.
We have spent a great deal of working hours to be able to set up the programme of the 2ndOlympic Seed Festival and the 18th Peliti Seeds Festival. Actually we started working from when the previous festival was over. We already work on the 2019 and 2020 festivals. Recently we have made clear the basis on which we will set up the 2018 Festivals programme and we wish to share it with you.
The main theme of the festival this year is peace and how people can overcome their differences and unite through the seed.
We have already participants from: Greece, Canada, U.S.A., Guatemala, Venezuela, South Africa, Burkina Faso, India, Palestine, Turkey, Cyprus, Bulgaria, France, etc.
Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Arrival of participants. At 5 p.m. the opening ceremony of the 2nd Olympic Seeds Festival & the 18th Peliti Seed Festival will be held at the land of Peliti (open to the public).
This is something new. All the previous years the festival started with a ceremony. This year the ceremony will be independent from the speeches programme. This year the ceremony will take place in cooperation with the Center for Cultural Development of Eastern Macedonia (KE.P.A.A.M.).
With this arrangement we will have more time available for the opening ceremony but also for the two days of speeches.
2nd Olympic Seeds Festival. Participation notification is necessary.
On Thursday, April 12 & Friday 13, the speeches will be held in a Hall where we will be transported by car or bus. Therefore, at noon we will have a light lunch break at this place.
A workshop for the preservation of traditional seeds will run concurrently with the speeches, at the land of Peliti.
Speeches start at 9 a.m. and end at 6 p.m.
Speeches are theme in sections according to the country of origin of the speakers. For example speakers from Africa in one theme, speakers from USA in another theme, etc.
This year for the first time we have three presentations from state representatives from Greece and Cyprus.
18th Seeds Festival of Peliti. Saturday, April 14th, 2018. Free entrance for all.
This year the festival will run at wider space than previous years.
The festival will start at 10:30 a.m. with speeches.
Seeds distribution will start at 12:15, aiming at giving the opportunity to farmers, who wish, to attend some of the speeches and allow, to those coming from far away, to arrive in time.
Before the end of the festival, a group of bell-bearers will hit the bells for the fertility and the fruitfulness of the earth. The closing, by hitting the bells, is in cooperation with the Center for Cultural Development of Eastern Macedonia (KE.P.A.A.M.). We inform all those who are not aware of it, that there are 6 local villages in Drama who perform folk happenings. These 6 villages have made KE.P.A.A.M. As from September 2017 we have established a collaboration for common events.
The festival will close with the good-bye circle followed by music and dance.
