The festival first took place in 1999 , in village Karpi of Kilkis and was the first public exchange of traditional seeds in Greece and one of the oldest worldwide.
In 2007 started to havea global nature.
In 2012 and 2013, International Seed Days were organized in parallel with the festival.
2014 was the point of entry for the International Solidarity Caravan for Seed Freedom.
In 2015 , during the celebration for the 20 years of Peliti (1995-2015), the first Meeting for the Comon Goods.
That festival has inspired thousands of people in Greece, and in other countries as well, to organize similar festivals in Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and other places.
Every year thousands of people come here to take part to the Peliti feast.
Among them very important famous people of the Global movement for the Seeds freedo, the Earth, Water etc.
Indictive names of our International guests are Dr.Vantana Shiva (2013 & 2015 ) from India, Michel and Junty Fantom (2013) Australia , Ugo Blanco (2015) Peru, Jodi Koberinski (2015) Canada, Margarinos Ray (2015) France, and many more.
So be ready for action and focus on collecting seeds from the varieties you cultivate, to be one of those who will offer some seeds and a lot of joy in the 17th Seed Festival of Peliti. One of our philosophical principles is the support of the humans freedom o keep their own seeds so that they are depended neigher on the seeds market nor on Peliti’s seeds. So all of you , who have got seeds from Peliti or keep some local varieties, when you come to the 2017 festival, make sure you have come in order to give seeds than to be given. The festival is open to everyone who is interested in coming, no matter they have seeds or not.
Traditional seeds cultivation and free offer is a deep political act. "Political" for us means the solution we choose to solve the agricultural, environmental, economic issues of the country, and not only ours.
The Peliti Seed Festival is a picture of the future.
Every member of the community is sharing what they have and all have what they need through this offer. This is how we vision the future. In this way, the festival is organized through voluntary work, food, materials, seeds, plants, music etc. All these are free in the feast (seeds, plants, food, music, dancing, speeches, actions, etc ). Those of you, who will bring seeds, plants or animals , you have to inform us by 15 February 2017. This is a basic principal that helps us to organize well and protect the festival.
The cultivators who will bring seeds, should bring at least 50 envelopes of each variety, plus an envelope of each variety for the Peliti seed bank.
Seeds should be packed in paper envelopes with the discriptions :
- 1.The species
- 2.The variety
- 3.The cultivating area
- 4.The cultivator’s name
- 5.The way of cultivating
The cultivators who for some reason cannot pack their seeds, should inform us on time during February so that we take over the packing. We suggest the cultivators and breeders to bring with them photo material (not promotional). They both will have pavillions to present their work, the seeds or the autochthonous farm animals. Cultivators and breeders, coming to the event area will get at the secretary’s desk (if not already have) the special card with their names on.

Discription of seeds and plants.
Seeds and plants will be offered from 10:30 a.m. , with the free coupons provided at the secretary’s desk at the entrance. Visitors can be provided with four ( 4 ) coupons, each for one envelope. That means that you should be careful with your choices. You may consider them few but we think they are a good start or a continuousness for your garden.Don’t forget that what we can’t have , a friend can get and share each other. Besides , sharing is one of Peliti’s goals. This coupon system may have it’s drawbacks but for the time being we haven’t found a better way for the distribution of the seeds and plants.
